Senior Thermal Design Engineer – Advanced Energy Systems

Buffalo, NY (Onsite)

Compensation: $120,000 – $180,000

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Thermal Design Engineer to lead the design and development of an advanced energy system for space applications. This role owns the full lifecycle , including thermal modeling, system design, prototyping, and validation.

You’ll build systems capable of operating in extreme heat environments , ensuring performance and durability under demanding conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end thermal system design from concept through validation
• Develop thermal models and perform heat transfer calculations (conduction, convection, radiation)
• Design for extreme temperatures and metal-phase conditions
• Build and validate prototypes against models
• Design and integrate heat exchangers, radiant heating, and hydronic systems
• Conduct materials and metals analysis for high-temperature performance

Qualifications

• United States citizenship (required)
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
• Proven experience designing high-temperature thermal systems
• Heat transfer & thermal modeling background
• Past work with metals and material behavior under extreme heat
• Experience with boilers, heat exchangers, radiant heating, or hydronics
• Hands-on prototyping and validation experience

Tools

• Thermal Desktop (preferred)
• ANSYS Fluent / Icepak
• COMSOL Multiphysics

Preferred Backgrounds

• Aerospace or space systems
• Industrial HVAC / thermal systems
• High-heat or metals-focused environments
