Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Medical Billing & Coding Specialist to support a fast-paced medical office with accounts receivable (AR) clean-up and insurance follow-up. This role is critical in addressing backlogged claims, verifying patient eligibility, and ensuring timely collection of outstanding balances. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, experienced in insurance AR workflows, and able to work independently with minimal training.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform insurance accounts receivable follow-up, including resolving denied claims and submitting appeals and reconsiderations.
• Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits across multiple payer portals with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Review and interpret Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and patient statements to identify discrepancies and outstanding balances.
• Conduct patient outreach for balances over 60 days, including courtesy calls, payment discussions, and answering billing inquiries.
• Explain billing details clearly to patients, including charges, insurance coverage, and payment responsibilities.
• Maintain accurate documentation within EHR/PM systems and ensure all updates are recorded in a timely manner.
• Support pre-collections efforts in alignment with internal billing policies (statements, calls, payment plans).

Required Qualifications

• Prior experience in medical billing, coding, or healthcare front office operations.
• Strong knowledge of insurance AR processes, including denials management and appeals.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting EOBs and patient billing statements.
• Experience working with payer portals and navigating multiple insurance systems.
• Familiarity with EHR/PM systems such as Epic (preferred), Cerner, Meditech, or similar platforms.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle patient billing inquiries professionally.
• High level of accuracy, organization, and ability to manage workload independently.

Preferred Qualifications

• Dermatology billing experience (highly preferred).
• Experience with Modernizing Medicine (EMA) or similar dermatology-focused systems.

Work Environment & Schedule

• Onsite position (5 days per week; no remote option).
• Schedule: Monday–Thursday 7:45 AM – 4:30 PM; Friday 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM (flexibility available; mornings preferred for eligibility tasks).
• Business casual or medical attire required.

Assignment Details

• Short-term assignment (approximately 1–2 months) to support departmental backlog.
• Immediate start date.
