We are seeking passionate educators for the Ohio Digital Learning School (ODLS) to join our team. Mission of ODLS To deliver an exceptional, individualized, and engaging educational experience by fostering school and community partnerships, implementing a rigorous curriculum, and utilizing a data-driven, student-centered instructional model. Student success is measured by assessment data, satisfaction, and institutional growth. Role Overview The Teacher is a highly qualified, state‑certified educator responsible for delivering course content in an online environment. High School English Teachers provide instruction, support, and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on individual student needs. They monitor progress via the learning management system and collaborate with students and parents/Learning Coaches to achieve learning goals. While primarily a remote position, occasional travel for school functions and state testing is required. Position Type: Full‑time. Requires the ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week, and maintain a professional, distraction‑free home office. Essential Functions Instructional Take ownership of student academic progress and attendance, setting high expectations and showing interest in achievement. Prepare students for standardized tests. Conduct a minimum of 15 hours of live synchronous teaching per week. Provide asynchronous support, including emails, course planning, learning plan preparation, and data analysis to identify student needs. Collaborate with colleagues on instruction, resources, interventions, and data related to student needs and professional development. Augment course content using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools, following school policies. Submit grades and student work, ensuring academic honesty. Maintain grade book and make placement/promotion decisions. Generate reports on student progress and alert administrators to concerns. Relationship Building Establish and maintain positive rapport with families, communicating regularly with students and learning coaches/parents. Support learning coaches/parents with curricular and instructional issues in a virtual environment, adhering to academy policies. Provide basic technical support to students and learning coaches when requested. Understand the impact of diverse student and family characteristics on required support. Collaborate with other teachers to ensure student progress, provide a central point of contact for parents, and distribute tasks among stakeholders. Respond to students, parents, and colleagues in a timely manner. Other Essential Functions Organize social and educational activities for students and families, including virtual clubs and outings. Travel to testing sites to proctor state exams. Comply with all school policies and procedures. Comply with all laws relevant to the position. Supervisory Responsibilities None. Other Duties & Responsibilities Build community. Assist with onboarding efforts as directed. Participate in committees as required. Minimum Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree. Six (6) months of student teaching experience. Meet requirements for a licensed teacher under the Ohio Revised Code and Ohio Administrative Code. Certificates and Licenses Ohio Secondary English Teaching Certificate. Other Required Qualifications Pedagogical knowledge of content and ability to apply critical thinking. Knowledge of state content standards. Ability to adapt to change to ensure excellent student outcomes. Independent problem‑solving skills and strong organizational abilities. Understanding of interdependency of deadlines and ability to act to preserve integrity. Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week. Ability to maintain a professional, distraction‑free home office during work hours (typically 9‑5 or 8‑4, or as defined by the school). Ability to travel as required (approximately 10% of the time) for professional development, student testing, and other school needs. Access to reliable high‑speed internet. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint. Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms. Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in technology systems, programs, and curriculum. Ability to pass a required background check. Desired Qualifications Experience working with the relevant age group. Experience supporting adults and children with technology. Experience working in a virtual environment. Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or brick‑and‑mortar environment. Experience with Blackboard Collaborate or similar online platforms. Work Environment This is a home‑based position.
