Title : EHS Manager
Location : Chilhowie, VA 24319
Salary : $115,000 – $135,000 + 15% annual bonus
Hire Type: Direct Hire

Sterling Engineering is partnering with a plastics packaging manufacturer to identify an EHS Manager to lead environmental, health, and safety initiatives at their Chilhowie, VA facility. This role will oversee plant-wide EHS programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement in safety culture and performance.

Responsibilities :

• Lead and manage all environmental, health, and safety programs across the facility
• Ensure full compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all federal, state, and local regulations
• Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and training programs
• Conduct incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
• Maintain accurate reporting and documentation for injuries, illnesses, and compliance records
• Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and environmental inquiries
• Obtain and manage environmental permits and regulatory approvals as required
• Drive continuous improvement of safety programs, culture, and overall incident reduction
• Lead safety committees and promote a proactive, plant-wide safety culture
• Analyze EHS data to identify trends and implement improvement initiatives
• Partner with leadership and cross-functional teams to support operational goals

Qualifications :

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, or related field required
• 3–5+ years of EHS experience within a manufacturing environment required
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and regulatory compliance requirements required
• Experience leading EHS programs, training, and continuous improvement initiatives required
• Proven ability to conduct investigations and perform root cause analysis required
• Experience working with environmental permits and regulatory agencies required
• Strong communication skills with the ability to train and influence at all levels of the organization
• Experience building and promoting a strong safety culture within a manufacturing setting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS reporting systems
• ISO 45001 or OSHA VPP experience preferred
