Crane Operator

The crane operator position is capable of running Friction Lattice Boom Crawlers, Hydraulic, and Truck cranes up to 300 ton capacity. This marine dredging/construction position will operate the deck crane by lifting, positioning, and setting large structures or pieces of equipment both onshore and offshore. Candidates are required to have basic knowledge of crane machinery in order to service the main engine and crane machinery, such as changing oil and filters, fueling, and lubricating gears and bearings. Works in a cohesive team environment and may support other positions as required on the job.

The position is based out of Myrtle Beach, SC and local candidates are preferred. Projects are located in the SE and Gulf region of the USA. Some travel may be required for this position. Rotations will be worked out as appropriate.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Additional duties may be assigned.

  • Loads/unloads, moves and places objects, equipment, and materials from the dredge, deck barges, trucks, etc. in support of dredging operations
  • Performs daily crane, rigging, barge and associated equipment inspections and basic maintenance on crane: changing oil and filters, fueling, lubricating gears and bearings, etc.
  • Assists with work on pontoon lines, submerged lines, attending plant, anchors and spud systems
  • Splices and repairs cables and towing ropes
  • Maintains inventory of rigging supplies
  • Completes inspection logs
  • Secures mooring lines to dredge, scows, dredge tender or attending plant
  • Performs JSAs prior to work activity and executes work accordingly
  • Ensures compliance with Manson's Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.
  • Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment as a condition of employment

  • Good Communication Skills.
  • Capable or understanding plans and work layouts
  • Good computer skills

Education, skill &/or experience

  • High School Diploma or GED Required. Some College or Vocational education desired
  • 5 to 10 years industry experience

Certificates, licenses, registrations

  • Must possess a National Accredited crane operator certification such as NCCCO.
  • Must have a valid driver license with acceptable driving record and reliable form of transportation.

Work environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.

Physical demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required use hands and fingers, to grasp, grip, handle, or feel. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, use stairs, ladders, and step stools and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to board, work on and disembark floating vessels and structures, and be able to navigate stairs, ladders and gangways and the ability to work on marine vessels and to transfer from one vessel to another while at sea.
