Career Coach Posting

The posted salary is an estimate of the potential annual pay. Final offer will be dependent on qualifications and experience. Anticipated Hiring Pay Scale: $60,000 - $65,000/Annually

Position Summary: The BHI Career Coach helps City of Los Angeles public housing residents navigate their career path, setting goals, identifying strengths, and developing action plans to achieve their professional aspirations. They work with diverse clients, offering personalized support and guidance through various career-related stages, from job readiness, to internships and job searching, to professional development.

Key Responsibilities of the Career Coach:
  • Utilize various recruitment strategies, including social media and virtual platforms, to engage the community, partners, and other BHI departments to recruit and enroll young adult career seekers (14 - 24 yo)
  • Enter all eligible participants into the appropriate database(s) and maintain regular service activity entries and case notes within the system.
  • Serve a caseload of approximately 50-100+ residents with skills assessments and review of career options; individual career plans; and soft skills training and career coaching leading to relevant industry training.
  • Individualized Career Coaching
    • Provide one-on-one support to help clients identify their strengths, values, and goals.
  • Career Goal Setting
    • Assist clients in defining their long-term and short-term career goals.
  • Resume and Cover Letter Support
    • Help clients create compelling resumes and cover letters that highlight their skills and experience.
  • Interview Preparation
    • Prepares clients for interviews through mock interviews, resume reviews, and practice questions
  • Conducts Workshops and Group Sessions
  • Stays up-to-date on the latest career development theories, tools, and trends.
  • Maintains client confidentiality and managing client information in accordance with privacy laws.
  • Community Engagement & Partnerships
    • Cultivates and maintains strategic relationships with community partners, employers, and stakeholders to expand employment opportunities.
    • Partners with WorkSource Centers, HACLA's Section 3 team, and other workforce organizations to streamline referrals and enhance employment services.
    • Represents BHI at community meetings, conferences, and public forums to strengthen visibility and engagement.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in workforce development, public administration, social work, or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • 2+ years of experience in workforce development, economic mobility programs, or employment services, preferably in nonprofit or government settings. Experience in a start-up or early-stage organization strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with federal and local workforce development policies, including Section 3, WorkSource Centers, and youth employment programs.
  • Strong ability to maintain multi-stakeholder collaborations and manage relationships with employers, funders, and community partners.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative, inclusive, and results-driven culture that reflects BHI's values of equity, empowerment, and innovation.
  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrable ability to write effectively, speak persuasively, and listen attentively.
  • Deep commitment to social justice, equity, and inclusivity, with an ability to work effectively in multicultural settings.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English highly preferred.
  • Ability to reliably travel between multiple sites across Los Angeles during the workday, including occasional short notice change.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
