The Assistant General Manager works directly with the General Manager to drive membership growth, improve member retention, develop the team, and ensure the club consistently delivers a clean, welcoming, and high-energy member experience. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys sales, leadership, accountability, and working in a fast-paced fitness environment. Key Responsibilities Sales and Membership Growth Support the General Manager in achieving monthly membership and revenue goals. Lead by example during membership tours, follow-up calls, lead generation, and closing. Monitor daily sales activity, appointments, show rates, closing percentages, and membership production. Coach team members on sales conversations, objection handling, and membership presentation. Ensure all leads are contacted promptly and consistently. Help execute local outreach, referral, and community marketing initiatives. Team Leadership Assist with recruiting, onboarding, training, and developing club employees. Lead daily team kickoffs and communicate goals, priorities, promotions, and expectations. Provide real-time coaching and performance feedback. Hold employees accountable for attendance, appearance, productivity, and customer service. Help maintain a positive, competitive, and professional club culture. Serve as the manager on duty when the General Manager is unavailable. Member Experience and Retention Create a welcoming and energetic environment for every member and guest. Resolve member concerns professionally and efficiently. Support efforts to reduce cancellations, improve retention, and increase member engagement. Ensure the front desk team consistently follows proper check-in, tour, and service procedures. Encourage member participation in personal training, group fitness, and club programs. Monitor member feedback, online reviews, and service recovery opportunities. Club Operations Complete daily club walkthroughs and address cleanliness, safety, maintenance, and presentation concerns. Ensure company policies, operating procedures, and brand standards are followed. Assist with opening and closing responsibilities. Review daily reports, billing concerns, delinquency activity, cancellations, and operational tasks. Help manage employee schedules and maintain appropriate staffing coverage. Ensure cash handling, membership documentation, and administrative procedures are completed accurately. Submit or follow up on maintenance issues and confirm proper out-of-order signage is used. Performance Expectations The Assistant General Manager is expected to help the club achieve measurable results in: New membership units Membership revenue Lead follow-up and appointment booking Show and closing percentages Member retention Personal-training appointment generation Customer satisfaction Online review performance Payroll and schedule efficiency Club cleanliness and operational compliance Qualifications Previous experience in sales, customer service, hospitality, retail, fitness, or management preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Comfortable working with sales goals and performance expectations. Ability to coach, motivate, and hold employees accountable. Organized and capable of managing multiple priorities. Professional, dependable, and solution-oriented. Comfortable using computers, membership software, email, and reporting systems. Passion for fitness and helping people is preferred. Schedule Requirements Must be available to work a flexible schedule. Availability may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Schedule will be based on club operating needs. Reliable transportation and consistent attendance are required. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds when needed. Ability to complete club walkthroughs and assist with operational tasks throughout the facility.
